The Florida Aquarium Business Development - Leisure Sales

The Florida Aquarium Business Development - Leisure Sales internship offers a well-rounded, educational experience working with our team of professionals. In this role, you will assist the Leisure Sales Manager with a variety of tourism and group initiatives. Have fun and never be bored while helping to increase awareness about Florida’s largest aquarium, right here in Tampa!

This specialized internship is designed to provide valuable hands-on experience at an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited, world class facility. 

This application is for the Fall Term (14 Weeks) September - December
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Visit hotels in Hillsborough & Pinellas Counties to provide Aquarium updates to staff (front desk, concierge, sales management, valet, etc.) and restock collateral
  • Conduct outreach via phone and/or email to past and potential group business
  • Promote The Florida Aquarium at networking events with Visit Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Chamber and other tourism partners
  • Conduct content audits on third-party and partner websites
  • Update databases with contacts (including group leaders, tourism/hotel partners); pull reports and analyze data to support leisure sales efforts
  • Coordinate with sales and marketing teams for updates to Aquarium website, social media platforms and collateral
  • Research business opportunities for the Aquarium that support attendance, revenue and mission goals
  • Attend bi-weekly team meetings
  • Coordinate Aquarium familiarization tours for tourism partners (Visit Tampa Bay, Chambers of Commerce, travel trade agencies and operators)
  • Track promotional discounts and coupon redemption
  • Process and submit requests for sales collateral to marketing
  • Assist with group entry including welcoming groups to the Aquarium as needed
  • Assist with business development projects as needed
Qualifications:
  • Must be college sophomore or higher with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or up to six months post graduate with preference to candidates with a GPA of 4.0.
  • Degree focused on tourism, hospitality, marketing or business management
  • Experience in tourism, hospitality or related industry is a plus
  • Ability to drive automotive equipment and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Experience using MS Office Suite particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Articulate and comfortable speaking with partners, guests and sales prospects about The Florida Aquarium
  • Good listener and able to appreciate other points of view along with The Florida Aquarium’s mission
Time Commitment:
  • Two-three days per week Monday – Friday. Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday preferable.
