Design Intern (Part-Time)

Position Summary 

The Design Intern is responsible for assisting the Industrial Design Engineer and the broader R&D team in the physical and conceptual development of advanced medical devices. In this auxiliary role, you will be heavily involved in 3D modeling, rapid prototyping, and design iteration to ensure our products achieve the highest standards of ergonomics and functionality. 

Specifically, you will directly support core innovation projects, including building precision CAD models for the Genesis AI console, and contributing to the industrial design of the Renaissance surgical robot. 

You will also cross-functionally collaborate with team members on projects related to the studies to provide valuable census data findings. 

 

Job Duties and Key Responsibilities: 

Build, refine, and manage 3D CAD models using SolidWorks for the Genesis AI console and other projects. 

Assist in executing specific industrial design (ID) updates and ergonomic enhancements for the Renaissance surgical robot and other general Genesis medical devices. 

Fabricate rapid prototypes utilizing 3-D printers 

Produce high-quality 3D renderings, graphics, and presentations to support marketing and engineering departments. 

Assist in updating basic UI/UX flows, wireframes, or touch screen display graphics for the AI console and laparoscope interfaces. 

Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications: 

Current BA/BS undergraduate (or graduate) student pursuing a degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. 

Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities. 

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members. 

Ability to communicate and interpret a variety of oral and written instructions. 

Proven proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software and other design tools; SolidWorks, Figma are highly preferred. 

Hands-on experience with physical model making and operating 3D printers. 

Must be able to commit to a part-time work schedule during the specified internship timeframe. 

 

Preferred qualifications:  

UI/UX Design Skills: Working knowledge of digital design tools such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator. 

Medical Domain Exposure: Previous internship experience or project exposure in the medical device industry, medical imaging, or regulated product development environments. 

Advanced Visualization: Familiarity with 3D rendering and animation software (e.g., Keyshot, Cinema 4D) and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
