Learning Resources Assistant, Senior (Lakeland)

The Senior Learning Resources Assistant provides a wide variety of clerical, operational support, and student/faculty assistance duties in a large and busy Learning Resource Center.

 

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Opens and / or closes Learning Resource Center as needed. 
  • Assists patrons, in-person or via telephone with LRC information and with the borrowing and returning of library materials including charge and discharge transactions, overdue materials, recovery, and record keeping. 
  • Student engagement through coordinating events, social media, and interactive bulletin boards. 
  • Interprets library loan policies to inquiring patrons and assists patrons with physical access to materials. 
  • Assists faculty and students in locating books and ebooks.
  • Assist students with Learning Management System access.
  • Processes requests for books and journal articles and maintains related records. 
  • Assists Librarian with inter and intra-library loans. 
  • Prepares tasks lists for OPS workers.
  • Assists patrons with the use of equipment and computers, laptops, VR headsets. 
  • Adds, deletes and modifies records in the automated circulation database. 
  • Process new acquisitions including the labeling, security preparation, and inventory. 
  • Inputs and maintains database of non-affiliated borrowers granted special library privileges. 
  • Monitors inventory of supplies and orders supplies as needed. 
  • Collects and reports statistical data on the performance of services as assigned. 
  • Re-shelve and maintain order of materials in stacks. 
  • Repairs books and other library materials. 
  • Maintains course reserve reading collection, service, and associated records. 
  • Performs general clerical and administrative tasks related to the library's operation.
  • Performs other related duties as needed. 

 

Typical Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • The ability to establish an effective rapport with part-time and full-time faculty.
  • Good organizational skills, with special attention to detail.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • General office skills including creating library displays. 
  • Experience with computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Good human relations and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.


Working Conditions/Additional Information

  • Must be available to work 10:30 am – 7 pm or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Friday when classes are in session.  During College breaks/summer hours will generally be 8:30 - 5:00 pm.
  • Sometimes schedule fluctuations are required.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt well to changes.


Salary and Benefits Information

  • This position is level C14

Required Education:

  • Graduation from a standard high school (or equivalent) is required.


Required Experience: 

  • At least 1 year of office/clerical experience is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least 2 years of office/clerical experience in a learning resources center, library, or teaching lab preferred.
