This job offers extensive opportunity for collaboration and teamwork, cooperating with fellow workers on solving various problems and striving to provide the best customer service possible. It is also ideal for those who work well in situations with little supervision, as these types of people can prove productive and useful members to the team without managers having to monitor them.
What I wish was different
I wish that some new policies recently enforced be more explored and thought out before implementing so quickly; some tasks that the Housing workers have had to perform do not solve the problems they intend to solve.
Advice
This is a great job to have with lots of ability to prove your leadership skills. Utilize that opportunity!

Research Assistant
May - June 2019 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
I enjoyed being on campus over the summer, learning more about the research process and forming relationships with people that I might have never met if not for this opportunity.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had another student working with me on the research project over the summer. Unfortunately, the other members that usually work with me during the school year were older and on to internships and things.
Advice
I would advise to really appreciate your time on campus over the summer, to make the most of the opportunity you have. Research was only part of what I did during those six weeks. In my free time, I explored campus and the city of L.A. in more depth than I had before. Take this time to form connections. The experience you get out of it will be exactly what you put in.

Cinematographer
April - May 2018 • Perth, Western Australia
What I liked
In my research, I got to examine Tall Poppy Syndrome, a sociocultural phenomenon in Australia. I did this through writing a 14 page proposal with my research parther, Amanda Meegan, working with a mentor, and filming over 4 hours of interviews with Perth residents. From these experiences, I learned so much about how to make an engaging film and how to think critically.
What I wish was different
None!
Advice
There is no such thing as "failure" in the resaerch process. If you do not have any findings, that provokes further discussion, and it still means that you learned something through your work.

Research Assistant
May - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

Since the topic was Optical Coherence Tomography, I learned a lot about photonics and how it can be used for image processing. It opened up a new branch of technology that I previously did not know existed and made me interested in photonics.
What I wish was different
I wish I could spend more time doing the research as the program was only for the summer.

Structural Research Assistanct
June - July 2019 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
Great on-campus opportunity especially if one does not get a summer internship lined up. This research experience was invaluable to me as it opened up my career interest to more than just aerospace. I learned to enjoy structural engineering and I applied for construction company internships usually meant for civil engineers. I ended up landing my first summer internship for the summer after my junior year at LMU at McCarthy construction mostly due to my strong resume which got me an interview.
What I wish was different
No complaints really. The research team was guided by Professor Sunai Kim who immediately taught us industry skills such as reading a construction drawing as well as the steel manual. As a mechanical engineering student, this was sweet as I never went over these in my classes.
Advice
If you do not have an internship lined up, research experience is the next best thing. It adds to your resume and allows you one more pertinent thing to talk about during interviews.
