EY

Assurance Intern

What I liked

Really great company and great people to work with. Had a wonderful experience getting to interact face-to-face with clients. They actually taught me real on-the-job skills that will be incredibly useful.

Advice

Take advantage of people you know. Don't shy away from making connections and talking to people about your experiences. I was the only intern from Gordon, so I really had to take advantage of putting myself out there to make connections -- because they didn't come naturally to me.

Risk Advisory Intern

June - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I liked the fact that even though EY is huge company, they did their best to connect you to as much people as possible. For example you had mentors at various levels within the company (ex. entry level all the way to partners).

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish that was different is if I could have gotten to travel for a project because I think that would have been a really cool experience. Besides that, I would have changed nothing!

Advice

I believe the only piece of advice I would share to individuals doing this internship is just to have an open mind. In this field of work you will continuously face new/challenging types of work, so in order to be successful you must be wiling to tackle anything.

Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Iselin, NJ

What I liked

I liked the exposure I had to the audit field. Prior to this internship, I had no idea what audit really was and did not take an audit course. Everyone on my team was always willing to give me work that kept me busy, but helped me learn, as well as answer any questions I had. Everyone's internship at a Big Four is different, but I was fortunate to be placed on a client that had a June 30 year-end and therefore assisted the team during busy season. I got to see the components of an audit, status meetings, and conversations with the client. I learned a lot throughout this internship, and have been able to apply it to my audit course now! Disney was also a huge plus to the internship. I really connected with the other interns at the Iselin office there!

What I wish was different

I am grateful that I was placed on a year-end engagement, but I do wish I had a little bit more time to go to some of the intern events and network with the employees and other interns there!

Advice

Be engaged and ask questions!!! This is so huge in any internship. The staff know that you do not really know what you are doing or looking at when given an assignment. By asking questions and being engaged, it shows initiative and that you are willing and able to learn. It helped me gain the trust of my team, which lead me to take control of tasks such as updating test of controls, testing journal entries, and various accounts, such as Cash, A/P, and Prepaid, during busy season!

What I wish was different
