Engineeing and Operations Intern

May - August 2018 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I enjoyed learning more about and being exposed to how corporate companies internally work. Working with industry professionals on a real, impactful project was very rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish I worked in a team environment in more of a software engineering role than an operations role. I felt overqualified for some of the work I was doing. I worked with Excel and VBA mostly.

Advice

Don't be afraid to be bold in networking with other people. Try to connect with people 20 years older than you because you can learn a lot from them. Don't just go with the flow and do work, actively seek work and give it your best, otherwise you will not get much out of this internship. Be sure to set difficult goals for yourself for the internship.

Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2018 • Middletown Township, NJ

What I liked

Learned a wide variety of technologies not normally taught in my school. The hours were flexible; I was able to bend the hours to fit my schedule, as long as I worked 40 hours a week and was able to attend intern events. Several intern events throughout the summer. Pay was really good among the other companies in the area. I got a total of 3 vacation days off.

What I wish was different

Advice

I was in the technology development program. The experience really depends on your team. Management will help you but I know some interns did not have a lot of work to do. Be active and ask your mentors questions if you get stuck so you can continue development and get work done.

I had a wonderful experience working at AT&T. The team I worked on was extremely friendly and very fun to work with. The people at AT&T really wanted me to learn and grow, and spent lots of time teaching me about their technologies. I loved my experience there and am very thankful for the opportunity I had.
